Frequently asked questions
After installation
What happens after the installation?
You receive the acceptance report, the conformity declaration, the data sheets and access to the monitoring app. We follow the Klimabonus file until payment, send you the decision for the communal application and stay available for any question. Three weeks later we ask for your feedback.
Do the panels need maintenance?
Very little: rain cleans pitched modules. A check every 5 to 10 years and occasional cleaning on flat roofs or near trees are enough. The monitoring alerts you, and us, in case of an abnormal production drop.
General
How much does a photovoltaic system cost in Luxembourg?
As a guide, a turnkey residential system costs between €1,600 and €2,200 per kWp incl. VAT depending on size and roof, i.e. about €10,500 to €13,000 for 6 kWp before subsidies. A 5 kWh battery costs €3,500 to €5,500. After Klimabonus and communal aid the net cost is often halved. Our calculator gives a first estimate.
How much does a system produce in Luxembourg?
About 950 to 1,050 kWh per kWp per year for a roof facing south, south-east or south-west with a 20 to 40° pitch. An east-west system produces 10 to 15 % less but spreads it better over the day. A 6 kWp roof in Luxembourg City produces 5,400 to 6,600 kWh a year.
How long is the payback period?
With the Klimabonus, the communal aid and rising electricity prices, most of our customers pay back their system in 7 to 11 years, for a lifetime of 30 years and more. Our offer includes a personalised simulation.
Installation & permits
Do I need a permit from the commune?
It depends on your commune's building regulations and the building's classification. In most cases a simple declaration is enough; protected buildings or sensitive zones need a permit. We check and prepare the file for you before ordering material.
What does Creos do and how long does it take?
Any installation above 800 W must be declared to the grid operator. We file the request on myCreos, Creos sets a pilot appointment and sends the connection contracts, then our electrician notifies the end of works via Smarty PRO. Creos inspects and installs the bidirectional meter within 30 days of approval. Allow 6 to 12 weeks in total depending on the season.
How long does the installation itself take?
Usually 3 working days for a house: mounting and modules, then inverter, battery and cabling, then connection, tests and clean-up. You keep your electricity during the works except for a short cut for the connection at the board.
Subsidies & financing
How much Klimabonus can I get in 2026?
The aid for the PV installation follows the formula P × (1,155 − 33 × P) €: €2,178 for 2 kWp, €4,950 for 5 kWp, €8,250 for 10 kWp and €10,000 maximum from 15 kWp. A battery adds up to €2,250 (from 9 kWh). Communes often top up 20 to 50 % of the State aid.
What is prefinancing? Do I have to advance the money?
No. Handelux is listed in the Ministry of the Economy's register of installers admitted to the prefinancing procedure. We file the request in your name, the Klimabonus is deducted directly from our final invoice and the State pays it to us. The deposit at signature is capped at 30 % of the price incl. VAT.
How does the communal subsidy work?
Each commune has its own rule: a percentage of the Klimabonus (often 25 to 50 %), a fixed amount or a bonus per kWp, sometimes capped. The owner applies after the Klimabonus decision and it is paid directly to your account. See your commune page for the details and the total.
Self-consumption or guaranteed feed-in tariff?
The Klimabonus 2026 requires self-consumption and a waiver of the guaranteed feed-in tariff; the surplus is sold at market price to your supplier. The alternative is the 15-year guaranteed tariff (0.1333 €/kWh up to 10 kWp in 2026) without Klimabonus. For an occupied home, self-consumption with Klimabonus is almost always more profitable.
Which VAT rate applies?
Supply and installation of photovoltaic panels on a private home benefit from the super-reduced rate of 3 % since 2023. The battery, the wallbox and material delivered without installation are at 17 %. Our offers show the rate line by line.
Do I have to declare the income from my system?
For systems of 1 to 30 kWp the tax administration tolerates treating production as a non-taxable hobby (circular L.I.R. no. 14/2). Self-consumption is not a commercial activity. Above 30 kWp or with full sale, the income is commercial.
Technology
Why SolarEdge and optimisers?
With an optimiser under every panel, a shaded or weaker module no longer limits the others, and the app shows each panel's production. The SolarEdge Home inverter also manages the battery, the wallbox and smart devices, and shuts down DC voltage on the roof when stopped (firefighter safety).
Is my roof suitable?
Tiles, slate, metal, trapezoidal sheet or flat roof: we have a mounting system for every covering. Orientations from south to east/west work; north is not recommended. The Geoportail solar cadastre gives a first idea; our technical visit confirms the structure, shading and roof condition.
Can I install panels in a co-owned building or on a balcony?
In a co-owned building the general assembly must agree; the Klimabonus applies to collective buildings with at least 1.5 kWp per dwelling. Balcony kits under 800 W need no Creos declaration but are not subsidised. We support residences with shared installations.
